Personal Data Protection Policy
The Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus places particular importance on the protection of the personal data of prospective postgraduate students. The processing of such data is carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - EU 2016/679) and the applicable legal and regulatory framework.
1. What Data Are Collected
When submitting an application to the Department’s Master’s Programmes, the personal data and supporting documents necessary for the evaluation of the application are collected, as specified in the application form and the accompanying documents.
Purposes of Processing
Applicants’ personal data are collected and processed exclusively for the following purposes:
- 2.1 Submission and Evaluation of Applications: For the receipt, registration, and evaluation of applications by the competent bodies and committees of the Programme.
- 2.2 Completion of Enrollment for Successful Applicants: For applicants who are selected, the necessary information is forwarded to the competent academic and financial services of the University of Piraeus in order to complete their enrollment and the administration of their studies.
- 2.3 Compliance with Legal Obligations and Protection of Legitimate Interests: Data may be retained and used to the extent necessary for compliance with the Institution’s legal obligations or for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims.
3. Retention Period
The personal data of successful students are retained in accordance with the applicable regulatory and administrative framework governing studies and academic records. Applications of candidates who are not selected are retained for the strictly necessary period and are subsequently deleted or destroyed in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
4. Applicants’ Rights
Each applicant has the right to request:
- access to their personal data,
- rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data,

erasure of their data, provided that the legal conditions are met,
- restriction of processing,
- data portability, where applicable,

withdrawal of their consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of the processing already carried out.
If an applicant believes that their rights have been violated, they may lodge a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority.
