Teaching Staff and Interdisciplinary Collaboration in the Postgraduate Programme

The lecturers in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus are qualified academic staff who possess the experience and specialist knowledge required to teach corporate governance and market management. Their experience and competence are well-documented and are reflected in their research and published work, as well as the conferences they have attended. For more specialised and technical courses, the MSc programme draws on its collaboration with academic staff from other universities in Greece and abroad, as well as business executives.

Haralambos (Haris) Agkyropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. He joined the Department in 2024, bringing valuable experience in econometric methods and econometrics.

Alexandros Kalavros is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Banking and Financial Management at the University of Piraeus. He holds a degree in Economics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Heidelberg, and a doctoral degree in Political Economy from the University of Ferrara.

Sotirios Karkalakos is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Piraeus, a Master of Arts in Economics from Florida Atlantic University (USA), and a PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA).

Konstantina Kottaridi is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. She holds a degree in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Master of Science in Economics and a Master of Science in State University of New York, as well as a PhD in Economics from the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Argyris Oikonomou graduated in 1960. From 2005 to 2016 he served as Legal Adviser to PPC S.A., and from 2019 as General Director of Legal Affairs and Corporate Governance. Since 2009 he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Competition Commission (2009–2012), as a member of the Board of Directors of TAIPED (2012–2013), and has handled over 180 cases and arbitrations in Greece and abroad. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Vice President and subsequently President of the Legal Affairs Group of “Eurellectric”.

Panagiotis I. Chronopoulos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. He holds a doctoral degree in Accounting, a postgraduate diploma, and a degree in Accounting and Finance from the Athens University of Economics and Business.

His research interests focus on financial accounting, and his work has been published in international journals such as the Research in International Business and Finance, Journal of Financial Reporting & Accounting, and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics.

Maria Psyllaki is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. She studied at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France, where she earned a Master’s degree and a PhD in Economics with a specialization in Finance in 1997. She then worked in London (Birkbeck College, University of London) as a Research Fellow, funded by the CEPR (Centre for Economic Policy Research) and the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council).
