The educational work of each academic year is structured into two semesters of study, the winter and the spring semester. Attendance of courses and related academic activities is compulsory. In the event that a course cannot be held as scheduled, a make-up session is provided. The rescheduling of courses is decided by the instructor in cooperation with the Director of the Master’s Programme, and students are informed accordingly.
Final assessment may take place either after the completion of each academic semester or after the completion of the teaching of each course or of each educational activity. The final assessment and grading for the individual courses of the Master’s Programme are determined by the instructor, who may, at their discretion, organise written and/or oral examinations and/or base the assessment on coursework.
Examinations, presentations, and all other forms of assessment are conducted remotely, with safeguards in place to ensure academic integrity and verification of students’ identity.
In the event of failure or non-attendance in a course examination, the student is given the opportunity to sit the resit examination in September. Each postgraduate student may fail up to two (2) courses per academic semester. Failure in three or more courses in the same semester results in dismissal from the programme following a decision of the Department Assembly.
Grading is based on a scale from 0 to 10: scores from 0 to 4.99 constitute a fail, while scores from 5 to 10 constitute a pass. Students are informed of their grades through strictly personal notification, by means of anonymised publication of the results in a designated section of the integrated distance learning system.
In order to obtain the Master’s Degree, each postgraduate student is required to attend and successfully complete all courses offered within the Master’s Programme and to prepare a master’s thesis, accumulating a total of seventy-five (75) credits.
The final degree classification is calculated on the basis of the average course grade, weighted at 70%, and the Master’s Thesis grade, weighted at 30%.
The internal regulations of the Higher Education Institution govern: (a) alternative methods for the assessment of students with disabilities and special educational needs; and (b) welfare measures for the assessment of students who are demonstrably ill or recovering from a serious illness during the examination period.
